THE PSYCHODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF TRAUMA SUFFERED BY ARCHER HALE IN MIA SHERIDAN’S ARCHER’S VOICE

This research is a study of Mia Sheridan’s novel Archer’s Voice. The purpose of this study is to reveal the trauma suffered by the mute male main character named Archer Hale. Archer was only seven years old when he got into a tragic accident that took away his voice and left him mute. He is a survivor of his own trauma since no one seems to care about him and his muteness. He was all alone, had no one to talk to, was an outcast in his town, and people called him a freak. Trauma is happened from a disturbing event that overwhelmed an individual and affects mood, motivation, and relationship in life. This feeling caused an individual to build a wall around and shut everybody out of life. Then, how is trauma suffered by Archer Hale portrayed in Mia Sheridan’s Archer’s Voice? Using qualitative method, this research is reviewed with Psychodynamic Theory focusing on psychological drives within individuals that explain human behavior and personality. In conclusion, Archer’s trauma has taken control of his life so bad that made him lose his voice both physically and mentally.

GENDER DISCRIMINATIONS AS REFLECTED IN THE FILM ON THE BASIS OF SEX

This journal intends to evaluate Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the major female character in the film On The Basis of Sex (2018), who encounters gender prejudice in her daily life. The story is based on the true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who experienced prejudice and stereotype in America about 1950s. This article would like to explore reflections of gender discriminations in the film On The Basis Of Sex. To study the subject, gender discrimination theory by Cassie Damewood is used by employing qualitative method. On The Basis Of Sex discusses societal beliefs and gender stereotypes that still exist today. Ruth Ginsburg is a successful woman who successfully overcame traditional gender norms and achieved gender equality, which significantly altered her life and society. She struggles to fulfill her dream of becoming a lawyer. She experienced injustice because of her gender. Ruth reflects liberal feminism when she champions equality on education, work, and justice. The conclusion of this study is any gender discrimination should never stop women to fight for equality and to find any uniqueness for them to move forward.

PELESETAN AKRONIM SEBAGAI STRATEGI KRITIK SOSIAL DAN RESISTENSI VERBAL

Menghadapi rezim otoriter Orde Baru dan rezim liberal Reformasi, mahasiswa sebagai pihak oposan yang "kreatif" tidak kurang akal. Ia pun mendayagunakan potensi energi bahasa untuk melancarkan kritik social dan resistensi verbal. Kajian ini mengangkat strategi kritik sosial dan resistensi verbal kebahasaan mahasiswa terwujud dalam akronim-singkatan pelesetan melalui perspektif sosiolinguistik kritis. Teknik rekayasa akronim-singkatan bernuansa politis meliputi dua hal penjungkirbalikan dekonstruksi semantis, yaitu menggunakan kata-akronim-singkatan nonpolitis untuk maksud politis dan menggunakan kata–akronim–singkatan politis untuk maksud nonpolitis. Bentuk akronim-singkatan pelesetan berfungsi melakukan identifikasi kelompok, membuat representasi keadaan sosial, melancarkan kritik, peringatan, dan perlawanan, serta meledek kebijakan penguasa. Objek yang dituju bentuk pelesetan adalah para presiden, DPR, MPR, hakim, jaksa, militer, polisi, partai politik, keluarga Cendana, dan pejabat umum.

PRINSIP KOOPERATIF, KESANTUNAN, DAN PARAMATER PRAGMATIK DALAM WACANA HUMOR GUS DUR

This research discusses the verbal humour of Gus Dur from the perspective of speech acts (cooperative principle, politeness principle and pragmatic parameter). With qualitative approach and constructivistic paradigm, this study applies the strategy of text ethnography. By referential identity method and documentation, selection, classification and explanation technique, finally it is known that in the verbal humour of Gus Dur, there are always deviations on the cooperative principle (maxim of quantity, quality, relevance and manner), the politeness principle (tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy maxim), and pragmatic parameter (distance, power, and rank rating).

ANALISIS KALIMAT IMPERATIF DALAM MANGA KUROKO NO BASKET “EXTRA GAME” KOUHEN KARYA FUJIMAKI TADATOSHI

Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan. Pertama, untuk mengetahui apa makna kalimat imperatif yang terkandung dalam manga Kuroko No Basket “Extra Game” Kouhen. Kedua, mendeskripsikan penanda lingual yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam manga Kuroko No Basket “Extra Game” Kouhen. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah sebuah komik yang berjudul Kuroko No Basket “Extra Game” Kouhen yang ditulis oleh seorang penulis komik, Fujimaki Tadatoshi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data diperoleh dengan metode dan teknik yang mengacu pada dokumen. Berdasarkan analisis dari 16 data dapat dikemukakan bahwa ada 3 makna kalimat imperatif yaitu fungsi perintah, fungsi permohonan, dan fungsi larangan. Oleh karena itu, dari 16 data tersebut, dikategorikan dalam 8 data memiliki fungsi perintah, 6 data memiliki fungsi permintaan, 5 data memiliki fungsi larangan. Makna suatu kalimat imperatif dapat dimengerti dari konteks dan penanda lingual yang digunakan. Oleh karena itu, pada situasi tertentu dan berdasarkan pada karakter yang dimiliki oleh penutur dapat mempengaruhi penggunaan penanda lingual dalam suatu kalimat.
